Barely There –
I got this to take traveling by airplane for hotels with microwave that may not have a coffee maker.Or if I want more coffee. It is lightweight. With box and filters weighs under 1 pound. All plastic except for a tiny metal arm.Does require a filter (or possibly use those round hotel packs). Probably could use a basket style all plastic permanent filter.It comes with a wide mug with lid (all PLASTIC) Nice grip base, AND a brew basket with removable lid and a scoop that fits in lid.Versatile: can use the wide coffee mug to eat soup, oatmeal, etc. The scoop is short but you could use it as a spoon in a pinch.(I mention these things in case you want to travel light).The lid snaps on. The mug is thin plastic. If the coffee cools you can reheat it!It has some shortcomings as a travel mug. The cup is thin plastic & pretty wide and will not fit in car drink holder.It could be a travel cup to sit in your room, on the balcony. The lid keeps coffee warmer.Cup comes with a vented lid, so you can drink from the mug.It wasn’t my favorite mug to drink from….(I tested this at home) so I poured it into my Contigo…It doesn’t give you Crema.,..It;’s not a french press and it is not an expresso machine nor a Capresso.Great news: there were ZERO grinds in the coffee mug. Decent coffee.YOU can easily adjust the brew with more coffee grinds or less water. (Never more water!).IF you use disposable coffee filters it is easy to clean. Just toss them and rinse.Make sure you use full size filters, it brews high and splashes grinds…but full size filter catches them all.(with 2 scoops and 10 ounce water).Package notes: It is five inches tall to fit in most microwaves. Model QB1. Brews 10 ounces of coffee in under four minutes.The travel lid fits in the brewing basket for storage.Abbreviated Directions:Insert full size basket style filter (8 to 12 cup size) into Brew basket and add two level Quick Brew scoops of drip grind coffee. Replace lid.Fill quick brew cup to the line in the cup with cold water. Pour water through the screen in the lid to totally saturate coffee grounds. Replace scoop on top of lid.Place brew basket with lid on top of quick brew cup. Align handles and place in microwave.Microwave wattage Power Setting400-550 watts High (100% power)600-700 watts Medium High (60-80% power)over 700 watts Medium (50% power)To test your power setting, fill your quick brew cup with cold water to the fill line.Place cup in microwave and determine the time needed to boil…and subtract 10 secondsto arrive at the correct brew time for your microwave.If your brew time is less than 3 1/2 minutes, reduce the power setting and retest (cold water).Once you have found the power setting that gives brewing time of 3 1/2 to 4 minutes, use that setting.DO NOT MICROWAVE LONGER THAN FIVE MINUTES or time required to boil, could damage microwave.Note: I have a 1100 watt microwave. Full power was boil in three minutes. 50% power did NOT boil water in four minutes.Correct setting for me is 90% power, with a brew time somewhere between 3 1/2 to under 4 minutes.From BoxA unique hot spot starts heating some water immediately to improve extraction. A heat sensitive valve keeps water and grounds together until they are fully heated. The design of the cover makes any condensation drip into the middle of the brewer to agitate the water and speed extraction. When the coffee is done, the valve opens and lets it filter into the mug.[scoop is just under 1/8th cup] Recommended use is 2 scoops to 10 ounce water.I gave it five stars.Well designed. It is a Mr. Coffee after all !!!!It brews coffee as quick as instant.It comes with innovative design (for its time) with a scoop, a travel lid, non slip base.It is a nice looking coffee maker, matte black with glossy black stripes.You will go through filters (they are cheap) but you can probably get a filter basket.It is lightweight.This is a quick brew microwave coffeemaker. It only works in a microwave.
