I like the size of it and still packing in 12 cups. The backlist button are nice. I’m testing the ‘strength’ button because I enjoy a truly strong cup of java. Black & Decker is my first stop for almost anything and am certain to be continually pleased with this purchase as well. (Anxious to try the self-cleaning element. Great feature!)

I had a $100 dual brew unit from a known brand and I really liked it. But after a couple years the drip maker side started leaking. I went to fix it because I know the fix would be a simple tube replacement or refastening. Guess what? The bums that made it use a special three bladed screwdriver so my regular screwdrivers wouldn’t work for disassembling the unit. I could have searched for a three bladed screwdriver, but instead I decided on the spot that I’d never buy a coffee maker from that brand again. My new coffee machine philosophy is this: no more expensive coffee makers and no more machines with complexity such as dual brew units. Why? Because the fundamental concept of making coffee isn’t really all that different for most machines: mix hot water and coffee grinds. I mean, how complicated do you want it to be? I understand that some processes might make for better coffee like cold brewing, but I’m not a coffee snob, I just want an affordable and reliable way to have decent breakfast coffee. So my new approach is this: get two affordable machines, one for drip brew and one for k-cup. Yes, it’ll take more space but if one breaks then I’m not out an expensive machine and I can just replace the one that needs it. And from experience, I have had good fortune with even cheap $10 coffee makers. So I got this thirty-five dollar Black and Decker, and will eventually get a slim profile Keurig mini for the k-cups.This drip maker is fine; I’ve only had it a week but it’s working well and has all the basic features I need (pause and serve, keep warm, delay brew, 12 cups capacity). The keep warm is interesting; the pro is that it can be configured for 30 minute increments up to two hours, the con is that you can’t change the setting during the brew or an existing warming cycle, you have to do it between brews. The carafe is fine, the beaker-style shape is wider at the base than the top and that sometimes takes some wrist gymnastics to fully empty it but that’s not a major issue. The carafe pours cleanly, although I felt the old machine’s carafe (a Hamilton Beach) had a better drip-proof spout design. The vortex style brewer is Black and Decker’s version of the «shower head» water distributor meant to better spread the hot water over the coffee grinds. It seems to work pretty well, although I didn’t have issues with the older style heads either. The grinds basket is a pretty standard looking plastic bucket with the spring operated pause and serve device on the bottom; you will need to add a filter when you brew, either the typical paper ones or permanent one if you have one.I could have gone even cheaper but couldn’t find the delay brew feature on many machines under thirty dollars. The one exception to my new policy is if someone can come up with a true stainless steel «none of your water or coffee touch any plastic» brewer. Then I’ll pay whatever it takes for one of those, but I looked all over and could not find one.

I have always had a simple coffee maker that just made coffee. My last one gave out, so I tried this B&D because it had an auto-shutoff. But it has 4 features I really like, and have not had before:1. Auto shut-off count down. You can select how long you want the warmer to run, then when the coffee has brewed, it starts counting down on the display to tell you how much longer before it cuts off.2. A «stronger coffee» button. Press this before brewing and it brews much slower and pulls more flavor out of your coffee grounds. I like the flavor of the stronger coffee, but you could also use it to save a little money by getting more coffee brewed per pound of coffee used.3. Set your time to start brewing. I guess this is a common feature on more expensive coffee makers, but I am now spoiled by it on this $40 coffee maker. In combination with the slower «stronger coffee» cycle, I just set it up to get started a little earlier.4. It seems a small convenience, but the top of the water reservoir is larger than my last one, and much easier to pour in the water.

I like everything about it ?

Very nice coffee maker at a fair price. Easy to use. Coffee is flavorful. We also like the shape of the pot and the heating pad seems to keep the coffee in the pot hotter than previous coffee makers. We haven’t tried cleaning it yet.

So far, so good. Love the way the water sprays over the coffee. No drips at all…

We had a Black and Decker coffee pot for 10 years before the heating element went out. Decided to go with this coffee pot after looking at ones with more bells and whistles but decided we really only needed the basics. Delay brew means a cup of coffee is ready right when we wake up! The keep warm function keeps the coffee hot for 2 hours before automatically shutting off. It is easy to set up and use. We like the strong brew function, the coffee tastes great.

Had only a few months, but is working well so far! Is easy to use, and I think the coffee tastes quite good. We use a stainless steel filter basket, which we used to use on our old cuisinart. I know some complained about difficulty in filling the water, and it can be a little tricky — but definitely doable. What gets tricky is when you fill water using the coffee pot, it is hard to get the last bit of water out without the lid from the pot wanting to bump into the lid from the coffee maker. If you put a little extra water in the pot and don’t try to pour all of it into the maker, then it works fine (or you can actually pour all of the water out if you sort of rotate the pot into just the right position as you get to the end). Controls are easy to use, and keeps the coffee nice and hot after its made.
