Gadget Girl –
I purchased this machine after having used a friend’s Keurig on a few visits out of town. I really loved the convenience but was put off by the poor reviews of most of the Keurig machines, and the size of them. I decided this smaller machine (which is still a bit bigger than my 1-4 cup Mr Coffee machine) was the best bet for me.Here are some things to think about when purchasing this machine:No water reservoir — fine for me as I was used to pouring water into a regular coffee machine every day and I am the only user of the machine, but for maximum time saving and multiple users, one might be better off choosing a model that has a reservoir.Water temperature — at first I thought it wasn’t hot enough, but then I remembered that I had always nuked my coffee after pouring it from the pot before. For very hot coffee, I would still need to do that, but the temp it comes out at is fine for me. I usually finish within 15 minutes, and it is still warm by the time I’m done.Dispensing size — There is an 8oz mark, and there is a Max mark in the water tank. Max is a little over 9 oz, which is what I always use. If you pour more that that in, the excess will drain into the drip tray before brewing. When testing, I used 10 oz (over the Max line) and got less than an ounce in the drip tray.Coffee strength — this is related to the dispensing size and is the biggest limitation for me. I like weak coffee. I have tried 6 different k-cups so far and found that using the max water amount wasn’t quite enough water for 3 of the k-cups I’ve tried (I’m cycling through a variety pack of 12). I haven’t tried the bold flavored ones yet. For this fact alone, it would be better to have a machine that dispensed more water, but once I settle on some flavors I will buy going forward, I’m sure they won’t be the bold ones.Mug size — there is a removable drip tray so you can fit a travel mug, but after taking it out my 16oz travel mugs are still too tall for it.Reusable filters — I purchased the Ekobrew filter and tried my own coffee in it when I wanted some decaf last night. It worked great. If you really want all the bells and whistles and maximum time saving, I suggest getting one the more full featured models. I’ve had this machine a week and I’m really satisfied with it, especially for the price, which was ~ $72 when I purchased. If I find that I want to upgrade in the future, I will take this one to work. Also, I think there are models with cup sensors. I haven’t made this mistake yet, but I have a feeling that one day I might brew some coffee and forget to put the mug underneath.**6 week update** — I am really very happy with this coffee maker and so glad I purchased it. I did notice a problem a few times where the water didn’t brew, it just went right into my mug cold. What happened is that I got things out of order. Water goes in first, then the Kcup. If you start messing with the order, this machine will let you know it doesn’t like that.

Great introduction to the k-cup market and fits my budget. I wanted to get a keurig machine without spending a lot of money after hearing mixed reviews of the k-cups and some of the machine models. I scoured the listings for cost, features and reviews by other customers. I settled on this machine and I really do enjoy it. It’s used every day and so nice to be able to have any flavor of coffee for yourself or company and being able to change flavors with every cup. Also nice for cocoa. I have not tried tea flavors yet but I assume they will brew as well as the coffee does. If you are a first time buyer like myself and don’t mind going cup by cup (as this model does not have a water tank) this is a great deal. If you are going to use more often, I believe you are better to go with the one that holds 24 oz or higher models. If you prefer the bells and whistles you will need to go with a genuine Keurig or other maker. One convenient feature would be the drip tray. If you ever forget to place a mug under the dispenser before the coffee comes out the drip tray does kindly hold one serving of coffee eliminating one great big mess on my kitchen counter and probably would have run all over the floor as well. That’s what I get for taking advantage of the fact that you have time to grab a mug while it’s heating up. My mom is right, multi-tasking is not always a good idea!UPDATE: For the most part I had a positive experience with this machine for fifteen months but that is when I needed to claim my Canopy protection plan refund (purchased separate for $9.99) Problems with the machine were that you had to push the button more than once to get all the water from the tank and and also the coffee wasn’t hot enough. It never made a piping hot coffee to begin with so when the temp produced goes even lower… not good. Perhaps newer models have improved? All things considered it’s a fair performance for the money but I am so happy I went with an extended protection to cover me if it didn’t work out in the long run.

I decided to get a Mr. Coffee brewer because I was concerned about the reliability issues I read about with the Keurig-branded brewers. I even waited a few extra weeks to receive this latest model in case it had any improvements over the KG1 — and also because it looks so much cooler. Only time will tell how durable it is, but my initial impression of quality is positive. It also does look as good in person as it does in the photo. This brewer makes the perfect-sized cup of coffee. I get 8 oz bottles of spring water by the case, so brewing a cup involves popping in a K-Cup and emptying a bottle of water into the reservoir. Unless you like coffee that tastes like dirty water, I can’t imagine getting an acceptable result putting more than 9 oz water through a K-Cup. I never even go to the 9 oz maximum fill because I like my coffee on the stronger side. Some K-Cups don’t make a rich enough coffee for me even with 8 oz water, but I found some that work great. You have to shop around a little and find the ones that suit your taste.I like a good cup of coffee, but I’m not a connoisseur and don’t want to be. A K-Cup machine is an alternative for people who drink drip coffee. This brewer makes a better cup of coffee than my previous drip machine, and I’m very satisfied with that. A drip coffee maker does make a hotter cup of coffee though, probably at the expense of quality. The Mr. Coffee brewer makes coffee that’s initially at an ideal temperature, but it cools off quickly. I imagine this is an issue typical of K-Cup machines. Pre-warming the mug with hot tap water is helpful, but I’m considering getting Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 10-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2 .I’m glad to be rid of the electricity-sucking hot plate of my drip machine and very happy to get a single cup of coffee in 3 minutes flat (including prep) with basically zero cleanup. That’s why I bought the machine. The Mr. Coffee brewer works great, looks good, and offers good value in a basic Keurig machine.

I have been wanting a single-cup brew machine for a while, but I just couldn’t convince myself to pay the price of a Keurig-brand machine. I’ve been using Mr Coffee brand makers for years, and when I saw the Mr Coffee BVMC-KG2-001 (silver) at Amazon for $54.98, I knew it was my chance to jump into the k-cup trend. I was thrilled when my new «toy» arrived. The little guy got a big work-out the very first day when the non-coffee-drinking family members crowded around to wait their turn to spin the carousel, choose a flavor from the variety sampler I also purchased, and pop it into the machine. The coffee or tea comes out nice and hot, and standing next to the machine during the cycle, you get to enjoy that fresh brew aroma. I bought the Lily Home 35 k cup carousel to hold the 35-cup variety sampler I also purchased from Amazon. The brewer and carousel look very nice sitting next to each other on the counter. Taking a helpful hint from one of the other reviews, I bought a pack of little 8-oz spring water bottles from the grocery to keep at room temperature to use for brewing. I prefer the spring water because my local tap water just has too much chlorine smell to it. I also picked up a pack of 12-ounce dixie hot cups with lids at the grocery. Those sit in the cabinet above the brewer. Now we have our own little «coffee shop corner» in the kitchen. The machine has a very small footprint that takes up little space on the counter. The modern design and soft silver color will work well with any kitchen style. I’m very pleased with this little brewer, and have a high level of confidence in the Mr Coffee brand that has served me well for so many years. The machine, the carousel, and variety sampler pack added up to less than I would have paid for the «base» Keurig brand machine alone. I’m very happy with this brewer.

Really love this little machine. I bought my original one last year, but it shorted out after a few months. However, the manufacturer was wonderful about sending me a replacement, which has worked like a champ for months and months—and is used several times daily-even a dozen or more if I have guests around.I am able to make small OR large cups—doing the latter by sending the water through in two shifts—8 ounces and then a second brew of 4 ounces. It’s not going to be super strong that way, but it’s still got plenty of oomph for me (I usually drink my coffee without cream). If I plan to use cream, I use a dark roast coffee and then brew only 8 or 9 ounces—and microwave it to bring it back up to proper temperature. This was the ONLY k-cup machine I found that I could use on my kitchen counter without pulling it forward with each use, as the clearance between upper and lower counters is not very large in my house. I use a tall, plastic, measuring beaker to measure the water, then pour it into the top, angling it from the side.I also use a Hamilton Beach Single Serve Scoop Coffee Maker to brew up to 18 ounces at a time into a tall travel mug or huge mug. It uses ground coffee (not k-cups), so I have more than one option each time I want coffee—depending on whether I want a smaller or larger mug, and whether I want k-cup or grounds. With these two little wonders sitting side by side on my counter, I’ve put the 12-cup coffee maker under the counter for the occasional large gatheringI am thinking of buying a second one of the Mr. Coffee machine for a back up, as I’m worried they’ll change the design and make it taller.

Had this about 3 weeks now. It has been working well. I agree with most here — it doesn’t make a lot of coffee and it isn’t super hot. But for me, the temperature is just right. It is hot enough where I have to sip it, but not smoking hot where it could burn me.Also for me, I like weaker coffee, so what I do is run another 6 ounces of water through the same K-cup (just after the first cup) and it comes out a perfect strength for me. I use a large, wide coffee cup — not too tall and fits fine.Like some others have said, I also noticed a plastic/rubber smell and taste on the first cup I made. I found it is coming from the neoprene ring that seals the heating chamber where you pour in the water, located on the closing lid. What I did was took out the small single screw that holds a metal circle piece, which holds the neoprene gasket in place. It came off and went back on easily. I then washed the neoprene piece in my hands with white vinegar several times and then followed with a liquid soap washing several times, then rinsed real well — No more funny smell or taste. (I know this is something that shouldn’t have to be done, but I am fine with it and it only took 10 minutes to do this.)I take out the K-cup holder and rinse it real well once per week.I don’t think the noise is a problem — a little noisier than my old regular coffee maker but not too noisy for me.Overall, I think it is well worth the cost and consider it a great value…EDIT: I have had it 2 months now. I have been making two cups of coffee every morning and it is still working great.

Initial review — I have the previous model and like it much better. This delivers weak coffee (six cups so far) and has a plastic taste to it. Since it has a totally different sound, I am assuming the technology is different from the first model. I would give the original one I have (BVMC-KG1-001) 4.5 — 5 stars. This I’m giving two stars to. Just not happy with the overall taste of coffee compared to the original. I’d probably give it one star except it does look «cooler» on the counter.Six month update — I took this to work and have found that I do enjoy it quite a bit if I buy different coffee. Co-workers don’t have another single serve to compare it against and are all very happy with the coffee it produces. Since we have to go quite a ways to get water to clean a pot, the single serve clean-up is particularly appreciated. So, I’m upgrading to four stars. Not wanting to mess with loose tea at work, we’ve discovered it also works okay with green tea bags and others that don’t require boiling water (bags in cup, not the brew basket).Five year update — who would have thought. This machine has made 2-4 cups per day for the last five years and is still going strong, even though we are very lax about descaling and use water fountain water when bottled runs out. I’m updating to 5 stars just for that. We tend to use recyclable cups and/or the reusable (different folks have had different types — the machine has lasted longer than the staff getting promotions).

I had a similar device in my hotel room a couple of times and got suckered into buying one for my home.I am not a coffee connoisseur by any means, so it’s hard for me to compare this to other machines or Starbucks. What I can tell you is that using this device is simplicity itself. No mess, no filters, no nonsense. You place an unopened Keurig K-Cup in the front and close the machine. You fill your coffee cup with water and pour that into the top and press the brew button. A couple of minutes later there’s a hot cup of coffee waiting for you to add milk and sugar. The used K-Cup is dry and clean, not dripping or dirty. Then you can toss that into the garbage when you have enjoyed your coffee. The bottom drip tray can be removed for cleaning if necessary.I’m sure there are way fancier machines on the market and if you are some kind of Starbucks junkie maybe these more expensive devices offer something special or better. For me, a mere coffee novice, I think this machine is convenient, simple, clean, and I’ve bought dozens of different brews to try out and I’m looking forward to that. For the price it’s hard to see a downside.

Originally I had purchased a Keurig B40 coffee maker and I returned it after using it twice. I really wanted a coffee maker that used the K-cups so I did a Google search and found this coffee maker and Amazon had the best price. When it arrived I quickly ripped it out of the box and made a cup. I held my breath hoping it didn’t sound like a jet plane taking off (like the Keurig coffee maker did.) To my surprise it didn’t. It sounded like a normal coffee maker brewing. It made a full 9 oz cup of coffee (unlike the Keurig.) The coffee tasted great! It was hot enough for me (the Keurig was way to hot for my liking.) In my opinion this coffee maker is not only made better but also looks better than the Keurig model that I had. It’s not huge (like the Keurig) and since I don’t have a lot of counter space this was a big plus for me. This coffee maker was by far a better value and it is perfect for my needs. The sample K-cups that came with it another plus. Once again «Thank you Mr. Coffee!» I’d rate this a 10 if I could.

I’ve had a Keurig B60 for about four years and it’s just about on its last legs. It’s actually worked poorly almost from the start ranging from filling only about a half a cup per brew to weird electronic glitches that caused it to shut off at various times during the brewing cycle. I will never buy another Keurig brewer after my experience with this very poorly made and overpriced unit.I hesitated at first with the Mr Coffee because I’m used to having a water reservoir. I’m so glad that this didn’t hold me back; it’s no big deal to dump a cup of water in with each brew and at least you know the water is very fresh. It makes a full cup and I haven’t had any water leakage. It heats the water quickly and with a push of a button it brews the coffee. It came out plenty hot — hotter than their Keurig managed — and it’s exceptionally quiet. Looks nice on my counter, too. It’s much smaller than the B60 but larger than the Keurig Mini — a perfect size for my kitchen.A good value, nice build quality, good results. Very glad I chose this unit.
